Want healthier skin? Stress less.
Thursday, July 26th, 2012
Stress is bad for your body. It puts you in a state of fight or flight and heightens your sensitivity to situations, opens your nerves, and inflames your body. As a temporary state, this is healthy and lifesaving. As a permanent state, which many of live is, it’s extremely unhealthy and leads to disease and disorders in your body.
Stress is specifically bad for your skin. During times of stress, the brain sends signals to the endocrine system to release stress hormones. One of the many hormones released opens up blood vessels and causes a release of histamine, which causes allergic reactions and inflammation in your skin. This prolonged state causes hives, reddening, stinging, flaking, and even a much higher risk for autoimmune and allergic disorders.
The key here is to keep stress under control, which is different for anyone. The most important thing you can do is to sit down and think about everything that causes stress in your life. This could be relationships, certain foods or situations, or even your morning commute. Once you’ve identified these issues, take steps to reduce stress in each of these situations one by one. Your skin will be healthier and you’ll be happier. It just doesn’t get better than that!

Dermaplaning Is harmless, fast, and natural
Friday, July 20th, 2012
Dermaplaning is a natural and fast way to clear up your skin and fine vellus hair (or peach fuzz). The process is fast, easy, and very safe and the benefits are immediate. You’ll be leaving our office in less than an hour all said and done with healthier, brighter-looking skin!
Unlike dermabrasion, dermaplaning is not a medical procedure, but instead a simple shaving of the outer layer of your skin.
We take a fine scalpel and run it over the outer layers of your skin to take off a very fine layer of dead skin and superficial hair. This simple process allows us to clear the bad skin and extra oil away, and skip right down to the healthy skin that’s hiding underneath. Since it’s not a medical procedure, there is almost no risk of scarring or infections. However, there is a small risk of a superficial scrape or nick.
Dermaplaning is perfect for patients with rough, dry skin, mild acne scarring or fine lines and wrinkles.

How To Use Sunscreen
Friday, July 20th, 2012
Summer is here in full swing, which means it’s time to break out the old SPF 30. We assume that our sunscreen will protect us for hours on end without fail, but will it really? And what level of protection should we be using?
The SPF scale refers to the amount of protons from the sun that are allowed to enter the skin with each level of sunscreen. For example, lets say that 10 protons out of ever 100 are allowed to enter with SPF 10, while 5 will enter with SPF 20, and so on. Boiled down, this delays the amount of damage that can be done by the same amount of protons reaching your skin.
Theoretically, SPF 10, 20, or 50 allows us to stay in the sun for 10, 20, or 50 times longer than normal. The problem with that theory is that it assumes no environmental factors that naturally break down the sunscreen long before it can protect you that long. For instance, water can destroy a good amount of the work that sunscreen does.
The good news is that there are proven ways to help the skin get the maximum benefit out of sunscreen. First, apply it 30 minutes before you go into the sun. This gives the sunscreen enough time to fully settle onto the skin and protect it. Second, apply it every hour after that or after going into water. This prevents the degradation from the environment taking effect. Also, avoid sunbathing in the middle of the day and make sure you put plenty of sunscreen on at a time.
Follow these tips and keep the sunscreen-rating model in mind and you’ll have healthy, glowing skin in no time!

Cosmetic Confusion
Friday, July 20th, 2012
Have you ever felt totally confused on what beauty products to use? Or where to go? Well, you are not alone.

When I carried this box of my ever-growing face products into the inBalance Skin Clinic in Fort Collins, I was told it’s a great visual of what many people go through before they find a regiment that works and products to improve their skin health.
So, what prompted me to try yet another product? PROOF - after seeing a co-worker’s skin transform from blotchy skin (dark patches of skin discoloration) to a naturally radiant, glowing face, I was intrigued. She shared with me some of the treatments she had undergone (dermaplaning, E.S.P., peels) and, probably more important, of the knowledge she gained through the clinic for healthier skin. It didn’t take me long to schedule my first appointment!
I actually went with my 85-year-old mother and though our skins are obviously at different stages we were both highly impressed and encouraged. Every time I return I learn more or assimilate it, which makes me even more motivated to keep working toward my goal of a natural, healthy face. Granted, it does take commitment and willingness to follow the protocol, but no more so than brushing your teeth or styling your hair. If you’re feeling the confusion, clear your head by calling inBalance @ 970.282.7546 and set up your FREE consultation. You won’t regret it!
